More InformationUnit #303 is an 855 square foot one-bedroom-and-den on the top floor of our cohousing building, facing east. It has generous storage and a laundry room, plus an outdoor patio with enough space for your patio furniture and a little garden. This suite is open plan with a large kitchen and plenty of cupboards.
Built in 2009, Pacific Gardens is situated on 4.37 acres of forested land, with organic gardens, fruit trees, and wildflowers. It has 8000 square feet of common space, with a central kitchen and dining room, a crafts room, woodworking room, music room, exercise room, a common laundry room, children's playroom, bicycle and recycling room, as well as individual storage units for each unit. Residents are welcome to have their own organic garden plot. We are family-friendly, and have residents ranging in age from toddlers to seniors.
Pacific Gardens is five minutes from Vancouver island University and downtown Nanaimo, and a few blocks from two elementary schools, a high school, and University Village Mall. Nestled in a park-like setting, surrounded by trees, and with a salmon-bearing stream on the property, we have a beautiful view of Mount Benson throughout all the seasons.
Pacific Gardens recently won an energy conservation award from the city of Nanaimo, for its innovative solar hot water system, the first of its kind in the city, and has also been recognized for its unique design featuring an interior glass-roofed atrium.
Nanaimo is a harbour city of 90,000 with a thriving university, a dynamic arts and culture scene with its own symphony orchestra, an avant-garde dance company, and more than 20 choral groups, as well as an abundance of recreational opportunities including hiking, mountain-climbing, kayaking, scuba diving, sailing and fishing. We get half the rain of Vancouver and almost no snow - what's not to like?
