We are a group of independent households developing a beautiful property on Sooke Harbour that enjoys expansive water and mountain views with amenities a quick walk away in the village core. Our mission is to establish a vibrant community of architecturally innovative, environmentally sound, strata-titled condos with extensive common facilities that encourage neighbourly interaction while respecting individual autonomy and privacy—an environment that will enrich our lives now and well into our later years, supporting each other to remain independent as we grow in creative community. We have applied for the necessary re-zoning for a single, low-rise (maximum 6 stories) apartment-style building with 32 fully independent strata-titled units. As of May 2017, we have 13 equity members and 2 associate member households. We are developing a purpose-built community that will facilitate aging in community for approximately 35 older adults and seniors in central Ottawa. It will involve co-care, some collective dining, self-governance and volunteer work. The cohousing project will provide 20 -25 apartment units with common space, shared resources, and parking. It will be self financed through contributions to development costs and purchase of units. We have enough members at the moment but are maintaining a waiting list.
